Looking for a unique, family adventure on a day off from school? Go behind-the-scenes at the museum with a free, 45-minute guided tour of the museum's collection storage which is home to more than 80,000 objects that help tell Iowa's story.
Most visitors only see a fraction of the museum's collection during their visit. On this tour, you'll step into the collections space for a rare look at artifacts that are not currently on exhibit. On the tour, you'll discover the stories behind some of the museum's fascinating objects including the artwork of sand artist Samuel Clemens to the legacy of civil rights leader Alexander Clark and even a famous rooster named General Jack Pershing.
Perfect for young learners (ages 9 and up) and their adults who love to explore with them, this family-friendly tour offers a one-of-a-kind peek behind the scenes at the museum.
