The 64th General Assembly created the Iowa Energy Policy Council in 1974 to formulate energy policy and to assist the state in dealing with problems concerning energy supply, consumption, and development. Originally scheduled to end on June 30, 1977, the life of the Council was extended until 1986. The energy conservation and research functions of the Council were then transferred in 1986 to the newly created Department of Natural Resources (RG 64).

Some or all of these records are available to search in the Iowa History Collections Catalog.
