In 1906, when Savings and Loan Associations were first authorized by the General Assembly, supervision was placed under the State Auditor. In 1939, the General Assembly authorized the Auditor to appoint a deputy as Supervisor of Savings and Loan Associations to provide general supervision of all savings and loans in the state. In 1986, the office became a division within the Commerce Commission charged with continuing the supervision of state-chartered savings and loans as well as the supervision of mortgage loan services in Iowa. For records prior to 1939, refer to the Auditor's office (RG 9).
Some or all of these records are available to search in the Iowa History Collections Catalog.
