The State Board of Assessment and Review was created in 1919 by the 43rd General Assembly to provide for supervision of assessment and tax laws formerly delegated to the Executive Council. In 1939 the Assessment and Review Board was renamed the State Tax Commission, a newly created commission with expanded responsibilities.
