Program Description

Explore the best practices for integrating social studies and literacy into your elementary classrooms. Participants will receive exclusive access to the museum’s primary sources - both archives and collection objects - as well as learn from teacher facilitators who will model best practices for using primary sources and inquiry in elementary classrooms. Participants will work closely with the museum education’s digital and print social studies and literacy resources, such as Goldie’s History Kits. Participants will walk away with resources and lesson plans to implement in their classrooms.

Project Description

Using what is learned about integrating social studies and literacy connections, participants will create a single-day or multi-day lesson plan. Participants will use an existing lesson plan, Goldie’s History Kit lesson, or create a new lesson plan and must include social studies themes, strategies and literacy components.

Fee and Registration

This two-day seminar is held for Elementary Educators and there is no fee to participate. Participants need to registerso you are able to receive LR credit and we are able to communicate with you once the date gets closer.

Lunch

Lunch will be on your own. Bring your own lunch or visit one of the restaurants near the museum.

Course Requirements

LR Credit seekers must attend both days of the class, actively participate and complete a lesson plan.
