There is a cornfield in the foreground and large, white wind turbines in the background. Iowa is a national leader in wind energy, producing the highest percentage of electricity produced by wind – over 36 percent (2016) – of any state. Iowa is the first state to generate more than 30 percent of its electricity with wind power.
