Register to join historian Lindsey R. Peterson as she explores how women in Iowa founded Local Ladies Aid Societies to contribute to the Union war effort during the American Civil War. Peterson will also delve into the postwar efforts of Iowa women who founded some of the most nationally successful chapters of the Woman’s Relief Corps, the auxiliary of the Grand Army of the Republic, to shape the war’s legacy and provide relief for Union soldiers, widows, and orphans.
The Iowa History 101 webinars share Iowa stories and the history of the state through a cultural history lens on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. Registration is required for each event and to receive a link to the recorded program.
