Register to join Brennan Dolan as he explores three case studies in personal archaeology from around the state. Brennan will share experiences working in transportation archaeology where the Iowa DOT dealt with family cemeteries within and near roadway facilities. Histories include the post-Civil War era, early 1910s, and Great Depression. These examples speak to the somewhat rare personal side of archaeology as we encounter complex family ties, personal hardships and historic preservation.
Brennan serves as the cultural resources team leader and tribal liaison for the Location and Environment Bureau at the Iowa DOT. He has been with the Iowa DOT for over a decade and previously worked for Iowa SHPO, the National Park Service, and in the private sector. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Anthropology, Archaeology, and American Indian/Native Studies.
The Iowa History 101 webinars share Iowa stories and the history of the state through a cultural history lens on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. Registration is required for each event and to receive a link to the recorded program.
