DES MOINES – The Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs today issued an open call for submissions for the third season of "The Film Lounge," a television series that showcases short, independent films by Iowa artists.
"The Film Lounge" is produced by Iowa Public Television in partnership with the Iowa Arts Council and Produce Iowa, the state office of media production, both divisions of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs.
Fresh off its second successful season in February, "The Film Lounge" celebrates the work of Iowa filmmakers, acquaints viewers with the state's vibrant film communities and explores film as an art form. Each one-hour episode includes:
- A collection of films 2-20 minutes in length in animation, art, documentary, experimental, music video and narrative forms.
- Interviews with the filmmakers who created each film.
- A spotlight feature highlighting an active filmmaking project or educational program in Iowa.
Submissions for Season 3 of "The Film Lounge" are due June 1, 2018, and will be reviewed by a panel of judges looking for artistic originality, technical quality and level of engagement. Applicants will be notified by Aug. 1 and selections will be announced Sept. 1. Selected applicants will receive a $500 stipend sponsored by Produce Iowa and the Iowa Arts Council. New episodes of the television series will air in February 2019.
