Event Details
Program Description:
Join us for an immersive experience at the State Historical Society of Iowa, where you’ll uncover the rich history of Iowa and learn effective strategies for incorporating it into your K-12 social studies classrooms. This unique opportunity provides exclusive access to the museum’s primary sources, including archives, collection objects, and exhibits. You'll also engage with museum staff who have teaching expertise and will demonstrate the best practices for integrating Iowa History into your curriculum. Participants will leave with valuable resources and ready-to-use lesson plans to bring Iowa’s history to life in the classroom.
Project Description:
Participants will leverage their understanding of Iowa history to enhance their teaching by either revising an existing lesson plan to incorporate elements of Iowa history or by designing a new, single-day or multi-day lesson plan that seamlessly integrates their curriculum with Iowa’s rich historical context.
This two-day seminar is held for 6-12 Classroom Teachers and there is no fee to participate! You just need to register so you are able to receive LR credit and we are able to communicate with you once the date gets closer.
Lunch will be on your own. Bring your own lunch or visit one of the awesome restaurants near the museum.
Course Requirements:
LR Credit seekers must attend both days of the class, actively participate and complete a lesson plan.
