Event Details

Program Description:
Explore the best practices for integrating inquiry and primary sources into your secondary classrooms. Participants will receive exclusive access to the museum’s primary sources - both archives and collection objects - as well as learn from teacher facilitators who will model the best practices for using primary sources and inquiry. Participants will walk away with resources and lesson plans to implement in their classrooms.

Project Description:
Using what is learned about integrating inquiry and primary sources, participants will use from any State Historical Society of Iowa’s Primary Source Sets, or create their own, and select at least three primary sources that relate to the compelling or supporting question. The primary sources can be from the Primary Source Sets, the Library of Congress, National Archives or a major university archive. Participants will create a single-day or multi-day lesson plan utilizing the compelling or supporting question, all of the selected primary sources and inquiry.

This two-day seminar is held for 6-12 Classroom Teachers and there is no fee to participate! You just need to register here so you are able to receive LR credit and we are able to communicate with you once the date gets closer.

Lunch will be on your own. Bring your own lunch or visit one of the awesome restaurants near the museum.

Course Requirements:
LR Credit seekers must attend both days of the class, actively participate and complete a lesson plan.
